Shard

12”x9”, acrylic on canvas

On display at Starbucks, 71st/Binford Blvd, Indianapolis.

“Shard” is a fun word, with a fascinating duality for me. It can signal a break, as in a broken glass. It can also signal protection, from structures like a scale, or a shell.
‘Shard,’ this painting, is a play with cubism. I pondered on how I/we respond to adversity and conflict. Do you allow it to shatter you, or can you naturally shed a little bit of your shell and live on?
